How can I choose a hotel in London, England?

beccaloo asked:

I need an affordable hotel in London this summer. The main attraction I want to be close to is the British Museum. We will be leaving London by Eurostar train so to be close to St. Pancras station would also be great. I’ve narrowed it down to either the Hilton London Euston or the Novotel St. Pancras. Any suggestions on which is better or if there are any other options I should consider? Thanks for your answers!

Berlin is a major European city which hosts an international airport and several top hotels. Many people believe that a visit to modern Berlin would be incomplete without a visit to the Berlin Wall, in order to obtain an understanding of the city’s history. Today, the various museums and monuments represent a part of Berlin’s history and are featured around the city. As a light break from the city’s historical details and culture, many people of all ages enjoy a visit to the Berlin Zoo.

Zoo Berlin

The Berlin Zoo was opened in 1844 and is located in the heart of the city. It may be difficult to conceive but for over a century and a half, visitors to the zoo have been able to learn about animal life and enjoy watching the animals. It is believed that these days the zoo contains approximately 14,000 animals of 1500 different types. In addition, an aquarium located within the zoo was opened in 1913. The zoo itself today provides a combination of the historical and the modern that produces an interesting visit for the tourist. A particularly interesting and well-known sight at this location is the entrance to the zoo. The Elephant Gate that was constructed in 1899 was destroyed in the latest war. This gate was then reconstructed according to its original features in 1984. Photographs of the gate are famous around the world. This gate now welcomes modern visitors to the Berlin Zoo just as the original gate did all those years ago.

At the Berlin Zoo, special efforts are made to create an environment for each animal type that is as close as is feasibly possible to its natural environment. One particular species worth a special mention is the giant panda which is housed at this zoo but is not an animal that can be found at all zoos around the world. Another aspect that demands a special note is the new home for the hippopotamuses that was opened in 1997. Today they are housed in a specially created type of aquarium that is surrounded and enclosed by special glass domes so that visitors may watch them. There is also a petting zoo at which children are permitted to pet and feed certain animals.

The Berlin Zoo is claimed to be the zoo with the most visitors in the whole of Europe.
This location’s official name is Berlin Zoologischer Garten which is translated to Berlin Zoological Garden in English. Due to its central location, the zoo is easily accessible. It is also possible to find a place to stay that is close to the zoo, if desired. After checking out details of the different options available, accommodation may be arranged at the simple touch of a button, via the Internet.

The city of Berlin offers several cultural and historical sites to its visitors. However one of its main attractions is the Berlin Zoo.

Some people, however, prefer to go off the beaten track to find something completely different. It may surprise you that even though Berlin has an impeccable record when it comes to organization and facilities, there is always something new to do. The key is to know where to look.

Now, if you like to walk then Berlin is the city for you. This does not mean that you have to walk everywhere you go and this will also depend on where you find accommodation. Most hotels will provide you with the option of taking a shuttle to most of the city’s hot spots. The transportation system is a class unto its own so you will never struggle to find transport any time of the day or night. If you want to stay within the city itself then you will be able to choose between all the world class hotels.

There is also the option of staying outside Berlin in one of the converted castles which now also function as niche hotels. However, staying in a self-catering holiday apartment or holiday rental could also be up your alley. If you hire a car then you will be able to explore the more outlying areas of Berlin and then continue on foot knowing that you will always have transport back to your holiday accommodation when you want to return ‘home’.

If museums are your cup of tea then Berlin has numerous that you will find quite interesting. The best museums include the Allied Museum and the DDR Museum Berlin. This is just a tip of the iceberg in terms of Berlin’s culture and history. The best way to experience more of this is on foot where you can appreciate the amazing German architecture up close.

The Berlin State Opera Theatre and the Deutsches Theater will not only offer you a jaw-dropping architectural feat but also treat you to a true German cultural fest if you book yourself some tickets to see a German show. If you look online you should be able to book tickets to one of the many shows in advance so you can plan your holiday more effectively. This will only take up a few hours of one evening in Berlin, but is guaranteed to be one of the highlights of your trip.

While you are on foot you could also consider having a look at the German Parliament. This is surrounded by equally-pretty buildings. The more you walk the more of Berlin you will be able to see. Do not forget to take your camera and as much spare film/memory card that you can. The sooner you book the better you will be able to plan your holiday, so best you start straight away.

Berlin, the capital of Germany, is a city that is rich in history, despite the fact that a large proportion of the city was destroyed during World War II. Most of the city has been rebuilt, restored and rejuvenated since that time and it is now a wonderful place to view old and new side by side.

Berlin had been divided for over 28 years by the Berlin Wall. When the wall came down in 1989, it was a leap forward for the city. You can see countless attractions and landmarks throughout East and West Berlin. Besides for the history that can be found there, Berlin is a vibrant cosmopolitan city today with a lively nightlife, bars, dancing floors and a number of underground clubs.

When you are visiting Berlin, make sure to spend some time at Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, the Jewish Museum and the Keiser-Wilhelm Memorial. There are sections of the Berlin Wall that are still standing and you should definitely have a look at part of it. The most famous part of the wall is known as Checkpoint Charlie. Other popular tourist attractions in Berlin include the Fernsehturm Television Tower, which is the tallest structure in the city and which includes a revolving restaurant at its top, Potsdamer Platz, which is one of the busiest squares in Europe and contains many shops, bars, cafes and places of entertainment, and the Reichstag, which is the old German parliament building. The Reichstag has a large glass dome that was constructed on top of it that you can enter. It affords you a stunning view of the city.

If you are looking for culture, Berlin is home to many museums and galleries. Museum Island is a complex of five museums and the Egyptian Museum contains many artifacts, dating as far back as 6,000 years. Art galleries in the city house the sculptures and paintings of famous artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso and Cezanne. There are many other architecturally beautiful buildings and places of fascinating historical interest throughout the city. You can view some surviving medieval buildings, as well as ultra-modern glass and steel buildings. You are able to purchase a 3-day ‘welcome card’ at tourist offices, ticket offices and some hotels. This will provide you with up to 50% discounts on museum and other attraction entry, as well as free inner city transport on the bus and train networks.

Berlin is full of holiday accommodation options. There are many hotels in the city and it is possible to find fairly cheap prices, even if you are looking at the five star category of hotel. Most of the better hotels can be found in the Western part of Berlin the section that was once East Berlin does not have the same standard of hotels or of other tourist facilities. If you are a member, you can stay at a youth hostel or if you not a member, you can stay at a regular hostel. These are among the cheapest accommodation options in the city. It is also possible to find private bed and breakfasts or boarding houses.
